You would think based on the calendar that June should have arrived, but looking out my window this morning Mother Nature begs to differ. Rain, rain and more rain!
Nonetheless it is June, which makes me excited because Garage Sale Season is HERE! Typically I am strictly a garage sale shopper. I have held my own garage sales in the past and they have been, I guess, what you would call "successful." Not mega cha-ching money makers, but they did help me off-load, and make room for, more treasures.
This season I find myself contemplating whether to hold a garage sale again. We have an impending transition and it wouldn't hurt to free ourselves from some of the stuff we have acquired.

There is something invigorating about sitting outside all day, bartering, pricing and chatting with neighbors that makes having your own garage sale fun. And, I guess, I would get rid of some of my unwanted items.
I don't know. I usually get rid of my unwanted items on Craigslist or Freecycle. That method typically works. But there is just something about hunkering down in a low-slung lawn chair that sounds tantalizing to me.

Yes! I love garage sales. I even have the children set up a stand where they sell lemonade, homemade cookies (those sell like crazy!) and homemade jewelry (also sold like crazy).
ReplyDeleteI think they definitely can be, if you have the time to prep them. I've had 1-day sales make as much as $300 and 2-days sales that have netted as much as $900. My parents usually have at least one sale a year and never make less than $500 at each one (usually theirs run 2 days). BTW, we never run newspaper ads. I do run a craigslist ad and we put up about 30 bright, simple, easy-to-read signs that point shoppers directly to our house.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many things to consider, though. What you have to sell, what the weather will be like, whether there is anything else going on in your town that weekend, how you organize and price your things, how much time you have to get it ready, etc. It all depends on what is most valuable to you at the moment...money, time or space. If you need space or money, and have the time, I'd say go for it!
Hi Lindsay, I love all your ideas of things to include at a garage sale. I think a little lemonade stand is in order.
ReplyDeleteHi Annie, Your sales and your parent's sales sound amazing! AND totally work all the time and effort. Thank you for the thoughtful comment. I think I am going to have to have a garage sake now!
ReplyDeleteHmm. I hate garage sales! (holding them, not visiting them) Haha - but you guys all seem to like them so much, maybe I am missing something. Possibly it's because I over price everything (because deep down inside I don't want to sell it) and then people complain the whole time they're there. But I digress. If you enjoy holding them (and if it provides room for more trinkets) then I say do it!
ReplyDeleteHi Reeja,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your input. I think it is totally OK to hate garge sales (holding them...). I think I often run into the same issue of over pricing. This time I might see what I can do to price better and promote more. Thanks for stopping in!
Yard sales are the best. Lol, am addicted to them. Just make sure you get some help though (perhaps a few family members), it could be exhausting but you will have fun and make some money too. Can't beat that with a stick!
ReplyDeleteHi Beauty and the Green, Thank you for your advice and comment love! I think you are so right. Help will be needed. I am sure I can bribe some people with food and beverage. Good thought. Welcome to this space!
