Someone Turned 30

Yesterday was my dear husband's 30th birthday. The day was beautiful. He spent it doing those things he enjoys most: relaxing, working on the yard, playing with our son, and-of course- eating delicious food. We celebrated with a strawberry rhubarb cobbler and BBQ-Tempe stuffed sandwiches (recipes to follow). Plus he picked out his very first "real" Grill. It was a good day, and a promise for a good weekend. See you here again soon!

This Girl Is Happy

This gal that is writing this to you here, now, has a birthday today. It took her a bit by surprise. For, you see, January is a very busy month in this house. So many, many (other beautiful) birthdays to celebrate, not to mention anniversaries and momentous gatherings with loved ones and friends for football watching and Valentine's Day preparation. It isn't difficult for my birthday to slip by in a whisper. Unnoticed.

Except, it  never does go unnoticed by my sweet family. They are happy to remind me that today is my special day. That today I am 28. That today I am grateful. I am happy. I am remembered. I am loved.

So, with a bit of a spring in my step I am off to celebrate my birthday like any proper person, or at least, proper 2-year old (as those who are 2 in this house would); with a breakfast of pancakes.

Wishing all of you a blissful Monday.

Celebrating 2

Today is a certain little one's birthday, so we are off celebrating, flying kites, eating pancakes and just having a jolly time together.

To celebrate I created a little photo/word montage to honor those things that this little guys just loves, loves, LOVES at the dawn of this new age. Just a simple way to remind me later what brought my boy joy during his second year of life.

Toddler Craft Project {Egg Carton Painting}

A little more than just the carton was painted
The afternoons have been filled with arts and crafts projects for us lately. Providing little fingers with many opportunities to explore and imagine, while allowing those bigger mama hands to get a few things accomplished themselves (like writing this post!)

Recently the paints made their way to the creativity table again. This time instead of paper we painted on card board egg cartons! There is something enticing about painting on a non-flat surface. My wee one enjoyed moving his paint brush through the rivets and dips of the carton.

Our intention is to turn this little project into a birthday gift for dadda. So far, the wee one has done his part, now if only the mama could find some time to finish it off!

What have you been doing to keep little hands busy lately?

Today I am 27

Today at approximately 11:45 PM EST (because I was born on the East Coast), or 8:45 PM PST (because I live on the west coast now), I will turn another year older. 27 to be exact. Another long journey around the sun over and done. It's been quite a year and it's hard to believe this time last year my wee one had only been 2 weeks old. No wonder I can barely remember what I did last year to celebrate. Probably just slept.

This year this day of celebration will be spent curled up in the house avoiding the rain and wet outside. Perhaps I will select a new book, or perhaps I may venture out for a yummy lunch. Other than that, not going to be up to much, although I do hear there is rumor of a lovely husband planning to make a delicious devils food cake and a scrumptious dinner too.

Perhaps I will share a few recipes from our celebrations later. Until then, wishing everyone a jolly and lovely Sunday!

XOXO,

Julia
